No Place Like Home
We are home. There could not be a more therapeutic environment than the Carriage House at the Fork. Rebec has a hospital style bed set up in the living room. Her window sits just feet away from horses grazing in the fields. It was a beautiful spring day for Rebec to step outdoors for the first time in a week, and she made the trip home sandwiched (or packaged) between 4 pillows – roped together by the seat belt. It was kinda like permanently inflated airbags and worked perfectly.
We of course went straight to the barn. Rocky was retrieved from his field and presented somewhat sheepishly to his girl. I confess to feeling a tad ambivalent towards him myself. Ready was thrilled to see Rebec, but confused by her demeanor somewhat…. You know looks like Rebec, sounds like Rebec… just doesn’t move like her??
Rebec settled in with her dog and her cat (named dog) to an assortment of welcome home parcels. Easterbaskets, and gift certificates, DVD’s and inspirational reading titled F My Life, and FU Penguin …….. (kinda makes ya tear up…don’t it)
Also sitting on the table was her Air Vest – arriving just a few days too late for her departure out of the start gate at Pine Top.

Bedside View
Looking forward to the days ahead. We are definitely in the driver’s seat now in terms of pain control and are all ready experiencing reduced need for narcotic. Bob is in the air as we speak and will turn up mostly to hang with his girl, and then to help the Fork with CIC prep.
Rebec is all ready trying to schedule lessons – however I did point out that Coaching usually requires staying awake for more than a 30 minute stretch…. Which could make for lessons that a) are really really short; or b) never quite end ?
Again thanks to the many who helped get Rebec to this point. Rebecca VonSchweintz for her competence in the barn, Susan Beebee, Lynn Symansky, Sinead Halpin and OCET for jumping in to do so much of the “heavy lifting” that was needed.
Time now to get ready for a kick ass CIC at the Fork – April 1 – 4.

Soft hugs to you Rebecca and big hugs to you Mary. I have been thinking about you daily and wondering how things are going………….and then I found this site. Sounds like it has been quite the road you are travelling, and I wish you a speedy, comfortable recovery. I know it won’t do anyone any good to tell you that you will have to take things slowly, however, I feel the motherly thing to do is tell you anyway – Rebecca you are going to have to take this thing slowly. There, I feel better now. Anyway, I will sign off now but will continue to check this site out for updates. Bob & Mary, if there is anything I can help with at home please don’t hesitate to drop me an email. I am not going anywhere (do I ever) and would be happy to help out in any way I can. Take care everyone. xoxo Deb

Yayayaya…. I’m so happy to read that you all have made it back home! I was wondering how that was going to work… transporting our patient from hospital to home ground, but it sounds like the pillow packing worked just great! I can only imagine the soothing sight of waking up to the horses outside the window… that sight alone will speed up the healing process!
It sounds like the three of you (Mary, Bob and Rebecca) are going to have some wonderful times together, but Rebecca, I’m pretty sure if you had just called your Mom and Dad and said you would like them to come down for a month or so, they would have been happy to juggle their schedules… you didn’t really have to go through the trauma to get them down
Sometimes it’s as easy as a phone call .
Sounds like you got some good welcoming home swag, and excellent reading material!
Sending virtual hugggggs down your way!
Your cuz,
Cheryl
